1) Daylight Savings Time changes
2) New U of I Direct Client DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME CHANGES This Sunday, Daylight Savings Time will be ending. As many of you have witnessed in years past, time changes tend to wreak havoc on PC/TCP and OnNet users. CCSO is currently beta testing a replacement product which is discussed at the bottom of this note. Hopefully the necessary configuration changes were made for this year last spring when Daylight Savings Time began, but here is the warning again in case the problem crops up. WHO WILL BE AFFECTED: Macs are NOT effected by this problem. The problem is due to a quirk of PC/TCP and OnNet that requires you to manually adjust the dates for when Daylight Savings Time begins and ends. If the date of the change is incorrect, your clock will be changed on the incorrect date. This causes problems when logging on to time-dependent hosts, such as UI Direct. For proactive troubleshooting, please check all users' machines for these date discrepancies as soon as possible. FIXING THE PROBLEM: To correct this error, you must manually enter the appropriate time-change date each year. Edit the pctcp.ini file with the following information: dst-begins=95 dst-ends=298 These lines will already be entered, but the number may be incorrect. Depending on the version of the software you are using, the location of this information within the pctcp.ini file will vary. Be sure you have also corrected the Windows95 time and zone, if applicable. ADDITIONAL HELP: If you need any assistance with this change, please send email to onnet@uiuc.edu, and I will give you a hand. Thank you for your patience. NEW U OF I DIRECT CLIENT CCSO is beta-testing a new secure U of I Direct client, using Kermit95 and MIT Kerberos V5 to replace Onnet PC/TCP. The beta test will end after the November registration period is over. The new software runs under Windows95 and NT and does not require a separate network stack. You may download the new software from the unpublished URL: https://www-s.uiuc.edu/sitelic/uofidirect Please be reminded that the software is still in beta, although it has been stable in the tests. It is recommended as a replacement for OnNet (or PC/TCP) where it is causing conflicts now. Please send any comments or questions about the new software to onnet@uiuc.edu
