1. CCSO Open House December 5th

As announced by Randy Cetin at the CCSP conference, CCSO will be having an OpCenter Open House on December 5th. The purpose of this is to allow all of you to get a better understanding of who we are and how we can better help you. We encourage you to attend, as you will not only be given a tour of our Operations Center and CCSO's DCL Data Center, but also be given the opportunity to ask us questions. The sessions will last approximately two hours and snacks and beverages will be provided by CCSO. Please RSVP with which session you will be attending by Friday, November 23rd. All sessions will be conducted on Wednesday, December 5th. Sessions will be limited to 20 people. If we have the demand that we anticipate, another day will be scheduled. Session 1: 9:00am - 11:00am Session 2: 11:00am - 1:00pm Session 3: 1:00pm - 3:00pm Please RSVP to: cjnewman@uiuc.edu.

4. New Quota for Staff POP Inboxes

You may have received a message about your use of a POP desktop email client. Recently, severe performance degradation problems related to these clients led CCSO to examine traffic on the student/staff cluster more closely. To address cluster traffic problems, CCSO has implemented a 20 MB POP inbox quota on staff email accounts on the cluster. (Student accounts presently are limited to a total of 10 MB.)

5. OpCenter Hours

Just a reminder with the holidays coming up, CCSO's OpCenter operates 24/7, 365 days a year. We will be available during the holidays to support you.

6. Training Classes

We are currently creating new classes at CCSO. The last Networking Basics class held in October was well attended and we are looking at new classes after the holidays. Lan/Wan, routing, TCP/IP, and network administration are some of the topics we are considering. We would like to once again ask for your input on what training we should offer. Please send all suggestions to cjnewman@uiuc.edu.
