1. CCSP - November 15th

The Fall 2000 Computer Consultant Support Program's Training Conference will be held on Wednesday, November 15th at the Levis Faculty Center. The keynote of the conference is "Protecting the digital economy: The anatomy of an attack". The CCSP webpage is at http://ccsp.cso.uiuc.edu. You can register online until Nov 10th.

Charley Kline will be speaking at the CCSP about current campus networking issues, including high-speed access. Also not-to-be-missed is the talk by Debbie Fligor on wireless networking, where she will describe CCSO plans for secure wireless networking.

2. Active Directory Update

Active Directory allows NetAdmins to let users login, without having to themselves create and administer a local account for the user, via Kerberos. There will be two sessions on Active Directory at the CCSP Training Conference. Further information on the campus Active Directory project is available at: http://www.ad.uiuc.edu/.

3. Walkup Website

In the past campus networking did not provide users with laptops to connect from any location on campus. Walkup networking has solved this problem, and allows logging in and using network resources for web browsing, telnet, ftp, real audio/video. to find additional information visit the Walkup website at http://www-walkup.cso.uiuc.edu/Walkup/

4. Networking Basics class 11/7/00

The last NAS Class this fall will be this Tuesday, November 7 in 1330 DCL from 2-5 pm on Networking Basics. The class will cover basic information for network administrators such as local campus conventions for cables and color codes, some ethernet fundamentals including the 5-4-3 Rule, some TCP/IP basics, and briefly touch on network security issues.
